Who uses CRM?

This article gives you some of the highlights of using a CRM and the types of companies that can be benefit. That’s helpful. The problem is, many of the systems mentioned are newcomers to the scene. Perhaps some of the “users” are investors, and are willing to overlook some of the things missing. Don’t be a beta user. Having your company on a system that goes away is not helpful.

This market started to shake out some time ago, and kind of settled on Salesforce, MS Dynamics, Zoho, and Sugar. Oh, there are still brokers using ACT who can’t move to the cloud, and some Mac users use Daylite, but for the most part, everybody is using these players. The others mentioned hardly merit it. If you are enticed to jump in because these small entrepreneurs mention something they supposedly like, you may get half way in and then realize you can’t map IMAP email like you’d like, or capture leads from your website, or integrate your distributors.

Salesforce is WAY out in front in depth and functionality.  So, most things you would like to do, you can whether you are big or small.  It’s a bit more to configure, but not much. Everything else is more pain: time+money.

Options Syncing Salesforce with QuickBooks Hosted or Online | ShellBlack.com

 

Here’s a good article summarizing how to sync Salesforce and Quicklbooks. The first line says it all: Quickbooks is the weak link and inuit no longer offers a connector. I’d look at other accounting options if you want the two to mesh. If necessary to use QuickBooks, then take a look at DB sync first.

      The biggest constraint in creating a custom solution is that the QuickBooks Web Connector is very limited – it does not let you access or control everything inside QuickBooks. For example we’ve found that as you send Opportunity Line Items into QuickBooks you can’t control the order – Invoice Line Items get created on the Invoice in alphabetical order. This can be annoying when you want to have shipping and handling at the bottom of the invoice or nest certain products together. Because of that we’ve actually used Visualforce email templates to send invoices to customers out of Salesforce since we can control the order of the line items (once QuickBooks syncs, you’ll have the QuickBooks Invoice # – so then you have everything you need to generate an invoice to the customer out of Salesforce).

      There is a vast array of options available to sync QuickBooks and Salesforce and we are not trying to give you an exhaustive list of options or cover every idiosyncrasy of every solution. Additionally we are not a partner of any of the solutions being mentioned and receive no financial benefit for highlighting one solution over another. We’re just presenting the landscape and breadth of solutions available. Ok, with that out of the way:

        This is a prepackaged integration, which “cannot be modified substantially.”  If you do need further customization, you have to move up to the full Boomi Atmosphere product.

        • Pros: You control the integration logic rather than a third party. Shorter time to being live versus a full custom solution. There are lots of folks that use Boomi, so consulting resources are available
        •  

        • Cons: Though more "point and click" than writing an integration from scratch, you still need a fairly high skill set to create an integration. Considerable ongoing annual costs but the more you use Boomi to manage other integrations with Salesforce (by adding more connections), the more cost effective the solution

Some Thoughts On Replacing Quickbooks and Going Cloud

  • Intacct is an old, trusted name in the relatively new field of cloud-based accounting. It would be a good solution for QuickBooks upgraders or any small or medium-sized business that wants to start with the core financial modules. Its scalability lets companies grow comfortably in a familiar environment.
  • Familiar top-level navigational screen. Multiple ledgers. Highly customizable. Exceptionally scalable. Supports unlimited inquiries. Good next step for QuickBooks users.
  • By Kathy Yakal   Intacct—the name is derived from “Internet” and “accounting”—has been on PCMag’s radar for over a decade. I first reviewed it in 2002 and gave it a rating of Excellent. Three things were true of those earliest versions. It was an excellent next step for businesses that had outgrown QuickBooks, offering more generous data capacity and multi-user access; integration with more powerful, related solutions like ADP and Salesforce.com; and a wide variety of highly customizable modules (Accounts Receivable, Inventory Control, etc.) that worked in tandem with one another.

     

  • But unlike QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions, it had a considerable learning curve, as it still did when I reviewed it in 2008. As it likely will the next time I review it. While Intacct lets users start small, as QuickBooks upgraders or small businesses with ambitious financial management needs, its core configuration can be extended out to the midrange level. A company can build an interface with tools that simplify accounting processes, but accounting at this level is highly complex. It will never be “easy” using any software or cloud-based solution.
  • Intacct accommodates a wider variety of potential customers than any of the solutions I reviewed here because its core content starts more modestly. The base package (which starts at $400 per month, direct) includes General Ledger, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, Order Entry, Cash Management, Purchasing, and Employee Expenses. You can add optional modules like Project Accounting, Global Consolidations, Revenue Recognition, and Salesforce.com integration
  • ntacct and NetSuite are fairly comparable where dashboards are concerned, though NetSuite has the edge here. Both look like state-of-the-art Web pages, but user roles and permissions are easier and faster to work with in NetSuite, and there are more pre-made roles.

    • My company switched from Quickbooks to Intacct in March 2013. Intacct has greatly improved our efficiency and accuracy. We did quite a bit of customization to make it work the way we wanted, but now have the ability to view customer orders in detail, learn which lines have been ordered, received, invoiced as well as lines that are waiting to ship and invoice. On the purchasing side we can view the PO’s for these orders and follow up accordingly if items are backordered. We also have a third-party expense reporting system and can upload approved expense reports into Intacct for payment. Intacct is linked to Salesforce and feeds customer transactions back to Salesforce so our A/E’s have visibility as to where customer orders stand and can see customer’s order histories.

      Pros: Great reporting, many customizable fields, customized fields can be pulled into reports.

      Cons: Total amount of customer order and total PO amount doesn’t show on respective list view screens – must drill into transaction to get that info.
